What are the belt levels for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
At KIMURA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, each belt
becomes progressively more difficult to get because
the level of fluidity and technical knowledge
demanded increases. It is a distinctly individual
sport and distinctly promotes hard work being the key
to advancement. This is not a sport where time spent
training will yield a certain belt, but where quality
time is essential. There are two groups of belts,
depending on the students ages:
Belts for Children (15 and under)
WHITE, YELLOW, ORANGE, GREEN
Adults (16 and over)
WHITE, BLUE, PURPLE, BROWN, BLACK (18 year old and older)
Stripes, like the belts themselves, tend to be awarded at the instructor's discretion, and may be in recognition of accomplishments like noticeably improving or tournament victories.
Every 6 months, KIMURA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy will give each student the opportunity to be tested for a new belt level and/or stripes.
