Jimmy wins third MMA fight!

Jimmy Collins won a tremendous fight at the Full Force Caged Combat 30 held in Westport, Massachusetts last Friday night, February 19. After three explosive and exciting rounds, Jimmy won a unanimous decision over Boneyard fighter, Sam Elliot. The bout earned Fight of the Night honors and keeps Jimmy’s undefeated amateur record (3-0) in tact. Scoring takedowns in every round, Jimmy mixed a lethal dose of wrestling, ground and pound, jiu-jitsu, and improving boxing skills. In the second, he amazingly escaped out of a deep arm-bar attempt that caused many in the audience to cringe and would have forced most fighters to tap. Also avoiding a guillotine, he went on to decisively win the third round and the decision. Jimmy trains with Lauzon MMA, Peter Welch Boxing, and Kimura Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Way to go! Looking for the best BJJ in Boston? First class Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructors can be found at Kimura locations in Watertown, South Boston, Framingham, Marlborough, and Medford.

12/12 Belt Promotions and Holiday Party

We are getting back to a semi annual promotion schedule and as such the next promotion will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 12:00pm at the Watertown branch of the Kimura BJJ Academy.  Our last promotion was held much later than anticipated therefore this one will seem soon to some people who promoted last time.  However rest assured that this promotion is simply catching up for the extra time spent training for the last one!  Please keep training hard for our upcoming tournaments and for this promotion!  We will be holding the Kimura BJJ holiday party right after the promotions, the location will be announced as we get closer to the date.   Everyone is encouraged to go to the promotions and doubly so to the holiday party!

9th Kimura BJJ Academy Promotion

We are very happy to announce that the 9th Kimura BJJ Academy promotion was a huge success!  With over 100 students in attendance, 8 students receiving their purple belts, and 1 student receiving his brown belt, it truly is a record breaking day for the Kimura Academy.  Master Jean Kleber congratulates each and every student on their very noticeable improvement and dedication to the school and the training.  Special congratulations go to Rodgigo Paulista , Marcos Silva, and Joe Bell who are head instructors at the Kimura branches in Framingham, Marlborough, and South Boston and therefore not only received their promotions but also witnessed and partook in their students promotions.  A very proud day for us all!  Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated and helped at the promotions!

September 26 Belt Promotions

Our belt promotions will be held on September 26 - 1:00 pm at the Kimura BJJ Academy headquarters in Watertown.  All branches (South Boston, Marlborough, and Framingham) are invited to attended.  Promotions are a time to celebrate and recognize all the hard work and progress each student has made in his or her time training.  This particular promotion will be a signifcant milestone for us as 8 students will be awarded their purple belts, bringing the Kimura Academy purple belt total up to 32!  Congratulations to everyone!  We hope to see you all there!

Kimura BJJ Hosts Record-Breaking Belt Promotion

Earlier in January, Kimura Brazilian Jiu Jitsu held its biggest belt promotion in the academy’s history. Nearly 80 people packed into the Watertown school to congratulate the nine students who received their purple belts, 22 students who received their blue belts, and dozens more who earned stripes on their belts. Master Jean Kleber encouraged all students to continue to stay focused in studying the great art of jiu jitsu and in training technique. He expressed pride in how so many students have remained committed and determined in recent years, promising that many will continue to advance and carry on the Kimura legacy.

2008 Belt Promotions

Kimura Academy’s 2008 winter belt promotion will take place on Saturday December 20th at 1:00pm.  Promotions will be held in the Watertown school and students who are promoting need to talk to Jean and pay the promotion fee by Thursday December 18th at the very latest.  Students who have been training consistently and for a reasonable amount of time since their last promotion or start date (roughly 3 months for white belts, 6 months for blue belts and up) will be eligible for promotion to the next stripe or belt.  If you are unsure, please talk to Jean.  Fees for the promotion will be 25 dollars if you are getting a stripe and 50 dollars if you are getting a new belt.  Belt promotions are a recognition of all the knowledge and improvement students have made through hard work and training and not an actual test.  With each promotion we look back and see the amazing accomplishments the students and academy has made.  The technical level at the academy has become so high in just 6 months, it’s truly inspiring to think of what the school will be like in another 6 months.  Congratulations to everyone and keep up the good work!
