Kimura BJJ wins NAGA New England Championship

The Kimura BJJ team took home top honors at the NAGA New England Championship held in Fall River, Massachusetts June 28. With Kimura competitors taking home an impressive 29 medals, Kimura competitors outscored the 2nd place, Link BJJ, by 1500 to 790. An astounding 39 competitors took part in the tournament and Kimura BJJ won a total of 29 medals. Kimura performed particularly well in the highly competitive purple belt division, winning 3 golds and 1 bronze. Overall, the squad won 12 1st place honors, 9 2nd place finishes, and 8 3rd place finishes. Kimura won the New England Championship in 2004 and 2006.

Master Jean Kleber and Mike Fontes would like to congratulate all of the competitors.

“We brought more competitors than ever,” said Master Jean Kleber. “Everyone showed unity and spirit.”

Kimura was proud to welcome back Bill Duff, a 49-year-old competitor who took home gold in the purple belt executive division for Kimura.  Despite a 6 month break in training due to family and work issues, Duff showed up to compete to help support the team.  Our doors are always open to the likes of Duff, who shows what the true Kimura fighting spirit is all about – even with almost a half century underneath his belt!

The New England team championship will certainly add to the celebrations as Kimura observes its fifth anniversary this July.
